She’s more gunpowder than girl—and the fate of the desert lies in her hands.
Mortals rule the desert nation of Miraji, but mystical beasts still roam the wild and barren wastes, and rumor has it that somewhere, djinni still practice their magic. But there's nothing mystical or magical about Dustwalk, the dead-end town that Amani can't wait to escape from.
Destined to wind up "wed or dead," Amani’s counting on her sharpshooting skills to get her out of Dustwalk. When she meets Jin, a mysterious and devastatingly handsome foreigner, in a shooting contest, she figures he’s the perfect escape route. But in all her years spent dreaming of leaving home, she never imagined she'd gallop away on a mythical horse, fleeing the murderous Sultan's army, with a fugitive who's wanted for treason. And she'd never have predicted she'd fall in love with him... or that he'd help her unlock the powerful truth of who she really is.
I am so excited to be taking part in the Blog Tour for Rebel of the Sands with Penguin Teen! We are celebrating the release of the sequel Traitor to the Throne which hits shelves on March 7th by reading and re-reading Rebel of the Sands and sharing the gorgeous new cover! I read the book for the first time and I absolutely loved it! Today I am sharing my thoughts a long with a Bookish Inspiration and giveaway! I hope you enjoy my stop on the blog tour!
“Haven’t you ever wanted something so bad that it becomes more than a want? I need to get out of this town. I need it like I need to breathe.”
Rebel of the Sands is one of those books that has been on my TBR for so long and I just needed to make time for it! I was so excited to become part of the blog tour and finally get to read it! I am so glad that I did because I absolutely loved it!
Amani wants to leave the dead end desert town of Dustwalk, she dreams of a bigger and better life far away from the whispers of a small town and servitude to her Uncle. When she meets Jin, a mysterious and very attractive man from another land she sees a way out and takes it. She finds herself in the midst of a rebellion, surrounded by magical creatures she has only heard about in stories.
The first half of the book was a bit slow moving, but still enjoyable. The pace picked up a lot during the second half and I found myself totally immersed and unable to put the book down! I absolutely loved Amani! From the very first page she was so full of fight and spirit and I knew that she was going to be amazing! She became more fierce as the book went on and is such an awesome heroine that you can’t help but root for her!
“Tell me that and we’ll go. Right now. Save ourselves and leave this place to burn. Tell me that’s how you want your story to go and we’ll write it straight across the sand”
I wasn’t sure what to think about Jin at first… I didn’t know if I should trust him. But I quickly began to like him and the banter between him and Amani was so fun! I loved that their romance was not such a large part of the book, but just enough to be enjoyable. I became more and more invested in them as the story went on, not only as a couple but individually as well.
The second half of the book is very different than the first in my opinion. We learn more about the “magical beings” and about the rebellion. I found this the most intriguing and enchanting part of the book!
Alwyn Hamiton really impressed me with this story, it read almost as a folk tale or fairy tale for me and was so magical and mysterious. I am SO excited for Traitor to the Throne and plan on diving into that one very soon!
“But if knowledge was power, then the unknown was the greatest weakness of immortal things.”
