All is fair in love and hockey…
Claire O’Connor is back in Juniper Falls, but that doesn’t mean she wants to be. One semester off, that’s what she promised herself. Just long enough to take care of her father and keep the family business—a hockey bar beside the ice rink—afloat. After that, she’s getting the hell out. Again.
Enter Tate Tanley. What happened between them the night before she left town resurfaces the second they lay eyes on each other. But the guy she remembers has been replaced by a total hottie. When Tate is unexpectedly called in to take over for the hockey team’s star goalie, suddenly he’s in the spotlight and on his way to becoming just another egotistical varsity hockey player. And Claire’s sworn off Juniper Falls hockey players for good.
It’s the absolute worst time to fall in love.
For Tate and Claire, hockey isn’t just a game. And they both might not survive a body check to the heart.

Ever since I read Third Degree by Julie Cross a couple of years ago I have been a fan! Her contemporaries are sweet and swoony with a good dose of angst! In other words, a few of my favorite things! When I saw that she had a new sports based contemporary releasing I knew that I needed to read it right away, especially when I saw that it involved sports which I love!

Off the Ice takes place in a small town called Juniper Falls, this town thrives on Hockey! Tate has been thrown in the game as starting goalie when the star goalie is out for the Season. Claire is back in town, taking a semester off from Northwestern to help her family after her Father’s brain surgery. Tate and Claire go way back, Claire has been best friends with his older sister since they were kids and he has always had a crush on her. Claire begins to see Tate in a new and unexpected light.

Despite not being the biggest hockey fan, I have found myself really loving books centered around the sport. Julie Cross did an excellent job of adding just enough Hockey to make it entertaining. I fell in love with the quiet, small town of Juniper Falls. I thought that Cross did an excellent job of creating this warm and cozy hometown.

I really loved all of the characters! Tate was so strong and reliable, one of the good guys. Claire was such a fighter and trying so hard to be there for her family, despite hitting pause on all of her dreams. Tate and Claire were so different and yet I really loved them together! I love the old crush becomes a new flame trope, it is one of my favorites!

There were a lot of things going on in this book, side stories with both Tate and Claire’s families as well as Tate’s ex and other players on the team. At times, I felt a little overwhelmed with all of it and I really felt as though it took away from Claire and Tate’s story. I think a little less of those side stories and a little more focus on Tate and Claire would have helped to build their relationship more.

Overall, I really did enjoy this book and this has yet again confirmed my love of Julie Cross! I am very excited to see where she takes the Juniper Falls series next!
