Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine that spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.

Lisa’s Pick:

WoW: Far from the Tree + Midnight JewelFar from the Tree
by Robin Benway
Release Date: October 3rd 2017
Publisher: HarperTeen
Genres: Contemporary, Young Adult
Find It: Goodreads

A moving contemporary novel about three adopted siblings who find each other at just the right moment, by acclaimed YA vet Robin Benway.

Being the middle child has its ups and downs.

But for Grace, an only child who was adopted at birth, discovering that she is a middle child is a different ride altogether. After putting her own baby up for adoption, she goes looking for her biological family, including—

Maya, her loudmouthed younger bio sister, who has a lot to say about their newfound family ties. Having grown up the snarky brunette in a house full of chipper redheads, she’s quick to search for traces of herself among these not-quite-strangers. And when her adopted family’s long-buried problems begin to explode to the surface, Maya can’t help but wonder where exactly it is that she belongs.

And Joaquin, their stoic older bio brother, who has no interest in bonding over their shared biological mother. After seventeen years in the foster care system, he’s learned that there are no heroes, and secrets and fears are best kept close to the vest, where they can’t hurt anyone but him.

Robin Benway’s beautiful interweaving story of three very different teenagers connected by blood explores the meaning of family in all its forms—how to find it, how to keep it, and how to love it.

Why I’m waiting: I adore Robin Benway’s writing. Everything I’ve read by her has been adorable, sweet, and a whole lot of fun!

Becca’s Pick:

WoW: Far from the Tree + Midnight JewelMidnight Jewel
by Richelle Mead
Series: The Glittering Court #2
Release Date: June 27th 2017
Publisher: Razorbill
Genres: Fantasy, Young Adult
Find It: GoodreadsAmazon

In MIDNIGHT JEWEL, Richelle Mead goes beyond the glitz and glamour of the Glittering Court, delving into the dark, political underbelly of Cape Triumph through the eyes of one girl who dares to fight for her freedom.

A refugee of war, Mira was cast out of her home country and thrust into another, where the conditions were inhospitable at best. In a life-altering twist of fate, she is given the chance to escape once more, and she takes it, joining the Glittering Court.

Both a school and a business venture, the Glittering Court is designed to transform impoverished girls into upper-class ladies who appear destined for powerful and wealthy marriages in the New World. There, Mira finds herself subjected to persecution, not only from her fellow Glittering Court jewels, but from her suitors, as well—men she would potentially be expected to give her life to.

By day, she goes through the motions, learning the etiquette and customs that will help to earn her anonymity, even making a couple true friends in the process, the forthright ladies’ maid Adelaide and the ambitious laundress Tamsin. But by night, Mira hatches a different plan entirely—one that, if exposed, could get her hanged in the highest court of Adoria.

MIDNIGHT JEWEL is the extraordinary story of a girl with few options who courageously forges a new path, finding love, passion, lifelong friendships, and maybe even a way to freedom.

Why I’m waiting: I read the Glittering Court last year and was very intrigued by the whole story! Admittedly, I enjoyed the first half off the book more than the last. However, I am very curious about the others girls sides of the stories and would love to read the rest of the series for that reason!

What are you waiting on this week?

  • Jessica @ a GREAT read

Nice picks! The first one is totally new to me, doesn’t really sound like my kind of read either but I hope you’ll love it!! I still need to read The Glittering Court! All the mixed reviews really put me through a tailspin and I’ve been putting off reading it! Hopefully I can be one of the ones who enjoyed it! Hope you’ll enjoy this one too, Becca!
