In this new contemporary from YA star Kasie West, a girl who wins the lottery learns that money can cause more problems than it solves, especially when love comes into the picture.
Maddie doesn't believe in luck. She's all about hard work and planning ahead. But one night, on a whim, she buys a lottery ticket. And then, to her astonishment --
She wins!
In a flash, Maddie's life is unrecognizable. No more stressing about college scholarships. Suddenly, she's talking about renting a yacht. And being in the spotlight at school is fun... until rumors start flying, and random people ask her for loans. Now, Maddie isn't sure who she can trust.
Except for Seth Nguyen, her funny, charming coworker at the local zoo. Seth doesn't seem aware of Maddie's big news. And, for some reason, she doesn't want to tell him. But what will happen if he learns her secret?
With tons of humor and heart, Kasie West delivers a million-dollar tale of winning, losing, and falling in love.

“How did people with money ever know if people really liked them for them?”

I am a huge fan of Kasie West! I have read so many of her books and I have loved each one! Her YA Contemporaries are light, adorable and a breath of fresh air! As soon as I saw that she had a new book coming out I could not wait to read it!

Lucky in Love is the story of Maddie, a high school senior with a load of problems her life. Problems including, her unemployed Father, college dropout brother, overworked mother and keeping her 4.25 GPA perfect so that she can get the scholarships she needs to get into the College of her choice. On her 18th Birthday she buys a lotto ticket for the $50 million jackpot… and she wins! All of her problems seem to be solved! Or are they?

I enjoyed this book so much! It was a quick read that I actually read in one sitting (which I never do). The story flowed nicely and kept me entertained the whole way. I liked the MC Maddie so much! She was a hard worker, a bit nerdy and so sweet. She was one of those characters you just can’t help but love, she takes care of the people in her life and even had a part time job at the zoo helping animals. After she won the lottery, my feelings did begin to change for her a little. In all honesty, some of her decisions with spending her money were giving me heart failure! But when I stopped to think about any 18 year old winning the lottery, I began to empathize with her. Most would be too immature to make good decisions right off the bat.

The cast of secondary characters was so well developed and important to this story. Maddie had two best friends, Blaire and Elise and I loved the friendship between these 3. It was so cute and adorable! Maddie’s family including her Mother, Father and brother also played a major part. I don’t want to spoil anything, but I will say that I feel her family should have bee more supportive and given her better advice when it came to her lottery winnings.

The romance in this one was my favorite part! Maddie works at the zoo with Seth, he is a high school Senior like her but goes to private school. As I read I couldn’t wait for her to be back at the Zoo and for the easy friendship (and flirting) between her and Seth to begin! Seth was probably my favorite character in the entire book! He was so funny and had me LOLing many times!

Overall, another very enjoyable read by Kasie West. She always writes books that warm my heart and put a smile on my face. I cannot wait to see what she comes up with next!
